Prior to starting an injection, substantial baseline date is required from the field. This baseline data will include extensive seismic work (3D, VSO, cross-well and single-well) and geochemical samples.
The monitoring project will evaluate the distribution of gas in a carbonate reservoir and will determine the chemical reactions that are occurring within the reservoir between the CO2 and the reservoir’s rocks and fluids.
The ultimate goal of the monitoring project is verifying the long term storage capacity of a given oil reservoir, particularly emphasizing reservoir integrity. Understanding how gas moves within reservoir fluids and minerals will allow us to determine total reservoir capacity. On a short term level, the monitoring will identify new, cost-effective ways to track the path of gas in any oil reservoir.
Simply put, these initiatives will help clarify reservoir capacity, and thus streamline the documentation process tracking gas.
